I recently bought a slightly used, but upgraded PSG-1. It shoots pretty well (400+fps) I've heard both sides of the argument that the PSG-1 sucks and I've also heard that it's one of the best. I bought it because I always liked the real PSG-1 and figured it would be fun Anyhow my friends and I have only recently started getting into airsoft so we're still sort of newbs. I was wondering if you guys could give me a few tips on how to maintain this perrrty little rifle. I'm thinking about upgrading it some more as well, and found a 400% spring that'll make it shoot over 650 fps. So I was also curious if you guys had any information as to wether that would be a healthy thing to do or not.
650 FPS = Bad idea. Most events wont allow sniper rifles to go over even 500, and 400 fps is just on the border of Machine gun and Sniper Rifle. All im going to suggest is that you keep the gun either as is, or get a tad better of a spring to make it around 480fps, which is a good round number. When you have a gun higher than 500, you start running into major safty problems, 650fps could go through many of the safty goggles on the market when dealing with targets 50 ft away, it could also pierce skin not to mention give one walop of a sting.
As for maintaining it, im going to suggest you clean it out after every 700 to 1,000 rounds to keep it shooting at its maximum range. I would also suggest you use premium grade bbs, they make a world of difference when it comes to wear and tear on the barrel, and on overall range of the weapon. I noticed a 50 fps difference in my mp5 from using a generic brand of bbs to a premium.
Anyway i dont hate the gun, I just hear bad things, but if you like it im happy for yah. GL with the sniping thing.

Yeah i personaly like the psg-1 alot. That was one of my first guns. With a spring rifle, it would be alright to upgrade so high, but with an electric rifle, going that high would bring down the life of the gun alot. Plus depending on the other internals, 650 would put alot of strain on the gun internaly. There for you would probobly break it pretty quick. I would say no higher than 500. If you decide to go that high I would suggest going with a whole gearbox upgrade. Especially your gears, I would definitly get metal gears. Your spring guide would be very important with such a strong spring. I would suggest getting a cylinder head with a double O-ring and high ventalation valves. And also AFTER getting a whole gear box upgrade, get a 10.8v battery. Than go have some fun!
I think what I'll do is get the systema FTK for psg1 and probably call it good. The only other problem with this rifle that I can see is the scope. It's kindy crappy, and VERY hard to get it to aim straight. I haven't been able to adjust it very well. Every time I aim and shoot it hits to the upper left of the place I'd aimed. Like I said I've tried adjusting it, but it seems to make little to no difference. Is it something I'm doing wrong, or is this a pretty common problem?
